How to convert magazines into EPUB with EPUBTurn

1. Keep the magazine PDF beside your reading copy

Start with a magazine PDF you are allowed to upload. Keep the original because a magazine’s page composition, advertisements and picture placement may be part of the experience. EPUBTurn is worth trying when your main goal is reading an article at a comfortable text size without repeatedly moving across a wide page.

Choose one complete article to check. Record its heading, the last words of the left column and the first words of the next column. Also note a photograph and the caption that identifies it. Those details give you a clear finish condition: the article should read continuously and the picture should still make sense.

2. Choose your PDF in EPUBTurn

Go to the EPUBTurn homepage, then open the PDF upload. Click Choose a PDF and select the original magazine file. Confirm the displayed filename before proceeding, especially if you have several issues with similar names.

Read any upload limit or error shown by the service. If the file is not accepted, resolve the stated problem before trying another copy. Do not remove publication restrictions or treat a subscription as permission to redistribute the resulting book.

3. Create the free sample and check its coverage

Choose Create free sample. EPUBTurn automatically selects up to ten sample pages; you do not choose a particular article by pressing that button. Wait for the page to show the result and check which source pages were included.

A sample containing the cover and opening essay cannot establish that a later interview or multicolumn feature reads correctly. If your chosen article’s continuation is absent, mark that transition unchecked. Use the included material for the decision the sample can actually answer.

4. Create the sample download when the control appears

If the result offers Create sample download, use that control to prepare the EPUB. A displayed page preview and a saved reading file are separate stages. Wait for the download to become available rather than assuming the preview is already a book in your reader.

If processing reports a failure, keep the original and read the explanation. A failed sample is not a reason to assume full conversion will fix the same passage.

5. Download the EPUB and follow one article

Use Download sample EPUB when available. Save the file and open it in an EPUB reader. In Apple Books on Mac, choose File > Import and select the saved EPUB.

Read the chosen article through its column transition, then enlarge the text. Check whether a neighbouring story or advertisement enters the paragraph. Locate the picture mentioned by the article and compare its caption with the original. Keep the PDF if a spread, visual arrangement or fine picture detail is essential.

What the saved results show

We have not published a converted magazine test here. The published research-paper comparison provides a real column-order example: the reviewed EPUBTurn export kept the inspected transition together, while four default converter outputs interleaved the passage.

That result required three equation-image corrections before a local export and still has clipped lower plot labels. It illustrates why column order and pictures deserve separate checks; it does not prove that EPUBTurn converted a magazine automatically.

The column example uses Hadj-Hammou and colleagues’ 2024 Nature Communications paper, Global patterns and drivers of fish reproductive potential on coral reefs, under CC BY 4.0. 6. Choose full conversion only if the sample helps

If EPUBTurn offers full conversion, follow the sign-in and credit confirmation shown for your file. Check the required pages, credit amount and any checkout price before approving the next stage. No paid magazine conversion was performed for this guide.

Keep a readable sample when that is enough for your task. For the complete issue, proceed only when the included articles give you confidence and any important untested sections remain part of your decision. After a full download, check a later article as well as the sample passage.
