Illustrated PDF to EPUB: actual diagrams, charts and reading results
Compare an actual published research figure with the reviewed EPUBTurn export. Its three plot panels survive, but lower axis labels are clipped; three equation crops needed correction.

A real three-panel research figure
Figure 1 on page three of the ten-page research PDF contains a map, a density plot and a scatter plot. Read the caption to identify each panel, then inspect the legend and axes. The original is a scientific figure, not a decorative image.
The reviewed EPUBTurn result retains all three panels but clips lower axis labels and ticks. The four default competitor outputs in the published research-paper comparison lose the vector plots. Keeping a caption is therefore weaker evidence than retaining the figure, and retaining the figure is weaker than keeping every useful label.

What the paper result does and does not establish
EPUBTurn’s initial automatic run stopped at a page-seven equation. Three equation crops were manually corrected before a reviewed result was made. The inspected passage order and numerical associations are retained in that file; Figure 1 is partial.
The ten-page excerpt contains no table grid or raster scan. It cannot establish table reconstruction or scanned-text recognition. Keep those tasks separate when evaluating your own illustrated document, and inspect the source wherever exact page arrangement supplies meaning.
Use the figure only for what it demonstrates
A source-and-output pair can demonstrate the particular crop, caption and paragraph relationship you inspected. It cannot establish every illustration in the book, another provider’s quality or a later software version. When you share the record, include those limits with the files. Keep correction work attributable to the edited edition and preserve the untouched raw copy. For a reader relying on diagram labels, the original PDF remains the reference until each meaningful edge and label in the reading figure has been checked.
Inspect the real paper beyond its opening
Our Apple Books Mac check used the saved reviewed paper EPUB. After one font increase, the view repaginated earlier; moving right returned to the same abstract with changed line breaks. Another move reached the following passage. That is an observed reading-flow task on an unchanged file, not a full-book compatibility pass.
For illustrations, return to the source Figure 1 and inspect every panel and edge. The reviewed export keeps the map, density plot and scatter plot but loses lower axis labels. Text reflow does not restore those details. The paper export also followed three manual equation-crop corrections; keep that review work separate from the native reader’s presentation.
Try a useful figure in your PDF
EPUBTurn reconstructs PDF reading content into adjustable text with useful illustrations. Try your free sample and compare a diagram, its caption and the passage that explains it. Up to ten automatically selected pages may omit a difficult figure, so an absent feature remains unchecked. Keep the original PDF where the table grid or page layout matters.
Choose the image that matters to your reading
A scientific plot needs its axes, units, legend and caption. An instruction diagram needs the labelled parts and the action it explains. A photograph may serve a different purpose again. Decide which relationship you need before treating a retained image as success.
When you inspect your own sample, compare the full useful image with the PDF. If a border crop removes a unit or panel letter, keep the PDF available and record the omission. Do not describe a visually recognisable picture as a complete conversion.

Choose a real illustration to inspect
The actual NASA sample EPUB retains Figure 2’s six hardware drawings, labels and caption alongside selected technical prose. The paper result retains scientific plot panels but clips lower axis labels after review. Those examples show why the useful question is which figure details remain, not simply whether an image exists. Check your sample’s complete image against its source.
