What did the automatic PDF sample cover? Use a worksheet

Record which prose, columns, images and references appear in the automatically selected EPUBTurn sample, and leave omitted features marked not covered.

List the layouts your sample needs to cover

  1. List the difficult layouts in the source.
  2. Identify pages representing different reading challenges.
  3. Check which pages the service actually includes.
  4. Judge the sample against those pages before paying.

Interpret automatic sampling honestly

The EPUBTurn sample is automatically selected, so the practical task is checking coverage, not choosing pages in the upload screen. Begin with a list of source challenges and mark the selected sample pages against that list. Use covered, partly covered and absent rather than a single overall tick.

A selected page may contain a figure while omitting the next page’s caption, so inspect continuations as well as individual pages. If your main reason for conversion is a recurring difficult layout, confirm that the sample gives enough evidence about that layout. Do not assume a beautiful title page represents the whole book. You can prepare a smaller authorised source excerpt when appropriate, but preserve the context needed to understand captions, notes and chapter continuations. Such preparation creates a different input file and should be recorded as a different test.

Map a sample to a real research paper

Use the ten-page published fish-reproduction paper in the comparison library. Its opening discussion, column transitions, Figure 1 and later equations ask different questions of a conversion. List those features before looking at an automatically selected sample. Mark each feature included, absent or not checked. A sample containing readable introductory paragraphs does not establish that a later equation or chart is usable. Our reviewed full-paper output required three equation-crop corrections and still clips lower plot-axis labels; the coverage worksheet should keep those concerns visible.

A sample covers only its included pages

A successful sample is evidence about the included content, not every page in the document. Full conversion is limited to 100 pages, and files must fit the 200 MB upload limit. If an important layout is absent from the sample, keep that uncertainty in your decision.

Use coverage rather than a pass count

One sampled figure page does not cover every figure type. A line diagram, a photograph with a caption and a multipanel chart present different challenges. Break your coverage list into meaningful categories when the document contains them. The same applies to text: a short plain paragraph and a cross-page two-column story are not equivalent evidence.

Describe the observed result concretely. Instead of “image passed,” record “Figure 1 retains its panels and caption, but lower axis labels are clipped.” That note helps you make a decision without implying the rest of the book was assessed. If the sample includes only the beginning of a continued story, mark the continuation check incomplete.

Before full conversion, decide how much uncertainty is acceptable. A casual article can tolerate a small local repair; a reference manual may require checking more material. Do not buy merely to erase the unknowns on a checklist. Use the available sample, source characteristics and your intended reading task to decide whether the likely benefit justifies converting the remainder.

Save the coverage sheet with your sample

Open the printable sample coverage sheet or download the CSV. Before uploading, record physical PDF pages or headings for ordinary prose, column transitions, captions, tables and notes. After the sample arrives, fill the actual sampled page and observation for each represented feature.

EPUBTurn selects up to ten sample pages automatically; the sheet neither changes selection nor promises that a chosen page appears. A table absent from the sample remains not covered. If that table matters to your buying decision, avoid treating clean prose as evidence that the table will be accurate. Keep the exact downloaded sample with the completed sheet and use the sample buying checks for what to inspect.

Check the late equations separately

The published paper’s later equations were not equivalent to its introductory prose. The reviewed EPUBTurn result followed three manual equation-crop corrections after the initial export was blocked. A coverage sheet should identify whether the sample contains those difficult pages and whether you have inspected the full equations. Comfortable opening text cannot settle that later task. Keep the original page as the reference for every symbol and surrounding condition.

Check the selection against the feature you need

EPUBTurn provides the saved reading copy used for this check. The NASA input had six pages, but the automatic sample selected only excerpt pages 4–6. The hardware picture was included; Figure 1’s block diagram on the preceding page was not. The separate nine-page cookbook sample selected pages 2–4, covering measuring instructions and one table, while excluding the photograph and bread-recipe pages. Both samples are useful only for their included tasks. Record absent features before choosing full conversion rather than treating a readable sample as a check of every layout.
