1. Keep the complete source and map the chapter boundaries

Choose the chapter by physical PDF pages, not only its printed numbers. Include the last continued paragraph, relevant figures and notes. Chapter preparation happens outside EPUBTurn; the free-sample button does not extract a chapter.

EPUBTurn creates an EPUB reading copy from an eligible PDF. Open the PDF upload after preparing the source. Keep both files so the original remains available for exact layouts and citations.

On Mac, use Preview to select the required page thumbnails and drag them to the desktop to create a separate PDF. Reopen that file and confirm its order, first heading and final paragraph. Include supporting notes or figures only when your permission allows it. This preparation step is outside EPUBTurn.

2. Choose the prepared PDF in EPUBTurn

Select Choose a PDF and choose your selected chapter. Confirm the filename and displayed document. Read any current upload message before continuing. Eligible PDFs must fit the service’s limits: up to 200 MB, with full conversions up to 100 pages. A smaller authorised excerpt can be useful, but changing the filename does not change the document’s format or page count.

3. Create a sample and check its actual pages

Select Create free sample. Up to ten pages are selected automatically. Check the included page numbers against the passage you intended to inspect. For a selected chapter, an easy introductory page cannot answer a difficult layout question elsewhere. If the required continuation or figure is missing, leave that feature unchecked instead of treating the sample as a complete-document result.

4. Prepare the sample EPUB download

Choose Create sample download when the extracted chapter has finished processing. Keep the excerpt’s original page map beside the result while the book is prepared. If preparation stops, read the displayed explanation before changing the input. A new extraction with different first or last pages needs a new coverage check; do not silently substitute another chapter and call it the same reading trial.

5. Read the selected passage beside its source

Choose Download sample EPUB and save the file. Open it in your reader; Apple Books on Mac supports File > Import.

Start at the chapter heading and read the first complete paragraph, then inspect the final paragraph. Check a reference to a figure or note and confirm the supporting material is present. Distinguish pages excluded during extraction from pages excluded by the automatic sample. A contents entry pointing outside the excerpt may remain useful only alongside the complete book. Record the original page range in your reading notes; EPUB screen numbers are not printed page citations. If the excerpt includes a sentence continued from the previous chapter, return to the original before deciding the conversion lost its beginning.

What the actual example establishes

EPUBTurn provides the saved reading copy used for this check. The NASA source was an unchanged selection of original PDF pages 3–8. Its normal automatic sample then selected excerpt pages 4–6, corresponding to original pages 6–8. Download both to see why extracting a chapter and sampling an extracted file are two different selections. For your own chapter, check the first and last physical page and any continued caption or sentence. Do not assume every extracted page appears in a free sample.

For your own document, create an EPUBTurn sample from your PDF, then use the reading checks described here.

6. Confirm whether a longer conversion is useful

If full conversion is offered, review the sign-in and displayed page-credit requirement for the prepared chapter. Continue when the included beginning, ending and references support your reading task. After downloading more pages, check the remaining chapter boundaries. Retain the complete book for citations and context outside the excerpt.
