EPUBTurn vs pdftoepub.org: compare the selected conversion mode
Keep Standard and AI modes separate when evaluating a dense scientific PDF. Follow a real column continuation and check the figure relationships in the reading copy you obtain.

The selected mode changes the question
pdftoepub.org separates Standard (Free) from an AI Model route. Its official homepage, checked on 6 October 2026, describes Standard as basic browser text extraction for simple PDFs. The provider recommends paid processing for scans and complex layouts. Those are documented descriptions, not results from our own comparison.
A two-column scientific paper is a useful reason to inspect a sample rather than assume every mode from the same website is equivalent. EPUBTurn provides a reading sample you can check against the included source passages.
What the EPUBTurn review required
EPUBTurn’s initial export was blocked by a quality check on equation crops on page 7. Three rectangles were manually reviewed and corrected. The displayed EPUBTurn result includes that review; it is not an untouched default conversion.
The download comes from EPUBTurn’s existing EPUB exporter. The browser service still blocked export because its job status had not updated. We did not obtain a working browser download for this trial.
Compare the documented workflow
| Decision | pdftoepub.org | EPUBTurn |
|---|---|---|
| Route | Standard basic extraction and an AI route are described separately. | Upload a permitted PDF and inspect up to ten automatically selected sample pages. |
| Evidence | No verified competing output for the published paper. | The labelled panels compare the published source with EPUBTurn, not with another provider. |
| Decision before paying | Confirm the chosen route and actual included content. | Read the included sample and confirm the required credits and checkout cost. |
What the reviewed reading copy shows
The reviewed EPUBTurn passage completes the left column before continuing on the right, with the selected numeric conditions retained. That is useful evidence for this paper’s layout. The figure check is less complete: three panels and legends survive, but lower axis labels and ticks in panels B and C are clipped.
Follow the argument across the columns
We use original pages 1–10 of a published Nature Communications fish reproduction study. Page 2 contains an introduction followed by results, with a numeric statement continuing from the bottom of the left column to the top of the right. Reading the right column too early inserts results into an unrelated opening sentence.
Compare the start of the left passage, its final line and the continuation in the right column. Correct numbers do not help if they appear beside the wrong claim. The source itself contains real measurements; our excerpt does not rewrite the study into a simplified demonstration.
Source PDF

EPUBTurn

A source comparison, not an unperformed head-to-head
During our earlier browser attempt, pdftoepub.org opened a file chooser but automation could not submit a file. No competing conversion was started or inspected. We have not obtained a verified output for this published-paper comparison either. The displayed pair is explicitly Source PDF and EPUBTurn.
The difference between access trouble and conversion quality matters. The absence of a download does not establish a layout defect, and the provider’s description of its AI mode does not establish successful handling of this paper.
Use the right evidence before choosing full conversion
If your own file is a plain single-column document, a basic extraction route may be sufficient. For a paper with dense columns, inspect the continuation before considering a more expensive mode. Keep the chosen setting and input document with the output so comparisons remain meaningful.
Also inspect a figure and its caption. A service might preserve text order while omitting plotted content. The published source includes a multi-panel map and chart; consult the raw EPUB and PDF instead of judging the whole document from one screenshot.
Check your paper with EPUBTurn. Confirm which pages the up-to-ten-page automatic sample contains. If the difficult section is absent, gather evidence covering that section before deciding whether the reading copy is suitable.
