How to fix EPUB text that will not resize

Test one ordinary paragraph at two font sizes. Separate image pages, fixed layout and restrictive styling before choosing a remedy.

Test the body, not the reader menus

Increase the font size while looking at an ordinary body paragraph. Notice whether the line wraps differently. Enlarged menus or a larger cover prove little about the actual article. If the whole printed page behaves like one picture, you are zooming rather than resizing text.

Identify the kind of content

A page image, fixed-layout content and text with restrictive styling can all limit adjustment for different reasons. Try selecting a sentence and opening the same file in another reader. Use the source to see whether it is scanned. The format extension alone does not establish that the article contains reflowable body paragraphs.

Locate the rule that prevents body text resizing

Try another known reflowable EPUB in the same reader first. If only the affected book stays fixed, inspect its chapter markup and stylesheet in a copied EPUB. Check whether the passage is real text or a page image. Remove a confirmed fixed body-size rule carefully, preserving intentional differences for headings and notes. Reopen at two sizes and read a complete passage. Enlarging a page image does not create adjustable prose.

These are targeted repair steps for your own file, not a newly executed before-and-after demonstration. Keep the unchanged original, an edit log and the exact reader version. Validate the saved copy and compare the full passage with the PDF before relying on the result.

Choose the remedy from the diagnosis

For image-only pages, usable recognised text is needed before paragraphs can flow. For restrictive styling, an edited copy may help if you have appropriate tools and rights. For layout whose spatial relationship is essential, keeping the PDF can be the better answer. Do not remove all layout information without checking lists, quotations and diagrams afterward.

A worked reading example

If the font control changes menus but not the article, the body may be an image. Zooming enlarges the whole picture; it does not turn the printed sentences into flowing text.

Try a simple paragraph as a control

Open another known reflowable book in the same reader and change body text size. If the reader changes that paragraph but not the converted article, the issue is specific to the article or its layout. If neither changes, investigate the reader control before modifying the file.

Compare whether selecting and copying text works, and note whether the PDF is a scan. These observations help decide whether you need recognised text, different styling or a different representation. A paragraph that becomes larger but extends sideways is not necessarily comfortable reflow. Follow a whole sentence across the screen boundary before concluding that the problem is resolved.

Check whether headings resize differently from body text. A heading responding to the control does not establish that the article itself is reflowable. Select an ordinary paragraph with several lines and follow its wrapping. Use the same passage for a later trial so you can tell whether the actual reading problem changed.

Distinguish selectable scan prose from page zoom

The actual cookbook measures EPUB contains selected measuring instructions as text and six measure rows as a list. That gives you a real file in which to try text-size controls rather than zooming a whole scan image. We have not proved every reading app’s resize behaviour on that file. Check your reader; use a new source-PDF conversion only when reconversion addresses the task.

EPUBTurn starts from the original PDF. Increase body text size and check whether the paragraph wraps naturally.
