Download a reader-compatibility checklist for your exact EPUB

Record import, text size, figures, navigation and offline tasks for the same EPUB in each app and version. Download a blank checklist with no invented device results.

Record the app and test the unchanged file

  1. Record the exact reading app and version.
  2. Open the same unchanged EPUB in each reader.
  3. Check font size and one contents entry.
  4. Record observed issues without generalising.

One import does not establish compatibility

This article provides a compatibility-check method, not a matrix of tested device results. A successful import is weaker evidence than reading and navigation checks.

Compare an unchanged real reading file

Download one actual published-paper EPUB from the comparison library and keep the file unchanged while checking different readers. Record the app version, operating system, contents navigation, an enlarged paragraph and Figure 1 separately. The reviewed EPUBTurn file’s clipped lower plot labels remain a file limitation even if the reader imports it successfully. Conversely, a transfer rejection prevents a reading check and should not be recorded as a missing figure. Use not checked for tasks you did not perform. This checklist does not establish results for readers or devices we have not tested.

Choose representative reader tasks

Import is only the first row of a compatibility check. Add a prose task at larger text, a figure-and-caption task and a contents-navigation task. If notes matter to your book, include a note jump and return. Use the same file in each app so the observations refer to comparable content.

Keep limitations explicit: a desktop test describes a desktop application, not a physical device with a similar name. A not-tested cell is useful evidence about the scope of the record. Do not convert it to pass because the EPUB is valid or another reader opened it. Repeat a relevant check after an app update if the task is important to your workflow.

Download the versioned reader-task sheet

Open the reader checklist or save its CSV. Record app version, device, operating system and exact EPUB filename or checksum before testing. The eight task rows begin as not tested: import/reopen, paragraph transitions, larger text, figure/caption, contents, notes, offline later sections and search/copy.

Use separate rows for each reader and change a status only after observing that task. A successful import does not pass every other row. Attach a screenshot or exact location for failures and leave unavailable devices untested. The sheet is a real downloadable asset, but it is not a published matrix of hardware results or an EPUBTurn compatibility guarantee.

Start the reader check with an exact saved file

EPUBTurn provides the saved reading copy used for this check. Download the actual NASA sample and keep it unchanged when checking your readers. Its retained hardware labels and numbered functions give you concrete content to locate after import. Record the reader version and test each task separately; a successful import cannot establish every reading feature or another physical device’s behaviour. The sample’s generic Front matter navigation is visible evidence too, not something to improve before comparison.
